When Bed Bugs Do More Than Bite

While bed bugs may be part of a popular goodnight phrase told to children, the health risks associated with them can be quite dangerous. From allergies, to insomnia and even harmful infections, bed bugs are no friend to humans.
Allergic Reactions – In some cases, people may suffer severe allergies from the bites of bed bugs. Others may also go into anaphylactic shock, similar to bee sting reactions. If this happens, it could be deadly. Thus, allergic reactions must be treated immediately.
Sleepless Nights – If a person is bitten by pesky bed bugs, they may experience episodes of insomnia. This inability to sleep stems from itchy bites and the sheer annoyance of the bugs being present. In turn, insomnia leads to:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of focus
  • Unstable emotions
If the bed bugs are not removed, these side effects of insomnia will only worsen.
Infections – The site of a bed bug bite becomes highly itchy, red and swollen. This can lead a person to scratch the area, even when sleeping. The unstoppable itching eventually opens the wound, creating an easy pathway for germs and other diseases to enter the body and the bloodstream.
